ICBC Wants Students to Get Creative With Road Safety
ICBC is calling on high school students to get creative and help spread the word about road safety. By creating print ads about one of three topics—impaired driving, speeding or distracted driving—they’ll not only share important messages with their peers, but also have the chance to win MacBooks, iPads and more.
The goal of the “Your Ad Here” online campaign is to raise awareness about an important fact: motor vehicle crashes are the number one preventable cause of death among 16 to 21 year olds. Drivers in this age group make up 8% of all drivers in BC, according to an ICBC report, yet they’re responsible for 9% of the accidents. Speed and alcohol are among the top contributing factors, but driver inexperience, overestimation of ability, driving without due care, thrill-seeking and risk-taking also play a role in the high rate of youth crashes.
The contest is open to students in grades 8 to 12 and runs until January 9, 2012. The school with the highest participation will win Adobe Creative Suite design software and the winning ads will be published in the winning region’s high school agendas.
Last year, over 150 students participated. You can check out the winning ads on Flickr. Please visit icbc.com/youradhere for more information and for resources, including templates.
